Lissy’s Top 5 Beer Bars in Vancouver

There are hundreds of bars selling excellent beer in Vancouver and admittedly I have not been to them all, but these are my favourite ones I visited during the 5 weeks I was there.

Please feel free to add ones you think I should visit in the future in the comments. Always open to trying new beers and venues.

1. The Lamplighter,

92 Water Street, Gastown

As with most chains you get what you pay for here, but a fun place to hang out and watch sport with decent beers and some good cocktails try the Red Racer IPA and Gin Palace G&T. Apparently stock 50 on tap but inevitably these are not all on at once.

2. Craft Beer Market

Salt Building, 85 W. 1st Avenue

Has one of the largest selection of draft beers in Canada, boasting 140 on tap. Informal setting and great for hanging and catching up with mates. Unsure what to have? Ask your server to make up a beer sampler with the type of beer you like and go from there.

3. Steel Toad Brew Pub and Dining Hall

97 E 2nd Avenue

Classes itself as brewpub and dining hall. Has great live music every night with a back drop of the silver brewing tanks at the end of the bar and good food. Try the pizza and one of the house beers. Recommend the East Coast Nineties IPA and the American Blonde.

4. Bier House

3305 Cambie Street and on Commercial Drive and Westbrook, UBC

With 20 beers on tap including local cask beer and over 100 bottles from around the world great atmosphere and good tapas. Recommend the chocolate beer Longboat Double Chocolate Porter from BC (I’m not usually a fan either but this was good)

5. The Portside Pub

7 Alexander Street, Gastown

Located in the basement. With over 24 different brews on tap representing local, North American and international breweries there is something for everyone. Must try the beer sampler if your not sure what you fancy comes with a shot of Jameson to wash it down.
